The movie ends on an inconclusive note, leaving the door open for another sequel, which is both frustrating and heartening. Some of the people they meet are as predatory as the monsters others are as brave and compassionate as Regan. Emmett could have used a bit more development but Murphy nevertheless imbues this deeply damaged man with pathos intensity and mystery. Killian Murphy is utterly compelling as Emmett his scenes with Millicent Simmons Reagan being among the most gripping in the film.
